Some Words Before You Register
So you want to become a Gamefilter member...
Thanks for taking the time to register. After registering you'll be able to post both links and comments, and join the vibrant, fun-lovin' extended Mefight Club Community. The site depends on the great contributions of people like you.
But before you dive in, here are some general principles and guidelines that help guide the site and the community.
Trust
One of the guiding principles of our community is trust in each other. The front page of Gamefilter can be added to by everybody that has signed up. Posting is quick and easy, but we hope that you'll take the time to find quality links for us. Any member of the community can post a comment in a thread, and say whatever they feel.
I honestly can't say this any better than it was said by mathowie, in his introduction to new members at Metafilter.com, the site that inspired this one. Matt said
"I give you the ability to do this because I trust you. I trust that you'll act in a civilized manner, that you'll treat others with opposing viewpoints with absolute respect and that you'll contribute in a positive way to the intelligent discussions that take place here every day.
I give you the benefit of the doubt, because I trust you, so all that I ask is for you to honor that trust and promise to become a good contributor."
That goes, each and every word, for Gamefilter, too.
In a nutshell, our credo can be boiled down to this simple mantra from Mefight Club's Herr Doktor ('Dok')
-
1. Be excellent to each other.
2. If you can't be excellent, be civil.
3. If you can't be civil, be offline.
1. Be excellent to each other.

3. If you can't be civil, be offline.
Good Community
Good conversations happen when people are respectful of others and are willing to listen and to give others the benefit of the doubt. Bring your own experiences and your unique viewpoint and share them with everyone. Expect and encourage others to do the same. When everyone brings intelligent, thoughtful commentary to a discussion, a community can grow and thrive.
Disagreements happen. Everyone loses their temper sometimes. If that's happening to you, then take a break, come back later. The guy who loses it and starts yelling is never the guy who looks good after the dust settles.
The most important thing that makes a web community valuable to its members is the contributions of those members. This means that a comment is appreciated for the value that it adds to the discussion, and a post for how interesting or amusing it is, and the quality of the discussion it spawns. The most valuable comments present new information, new perspectives, and new ideas that make us think twice about our beliefs. Or just make us laugh a bit. That's nice, too.
Still want in? Go ahead and sign up for an account, and welcome. We look forward to seeing you on the other side!
