Prey’d Runner

Prey 2 appears to be a radical departure from its predecessor. It will be an open-world game, rather than a straightforward shooter on an alien spaceship. The player will be a bounty hunter, working in a city inspired by Blade Runner.

  1. Weird. Spotted in the comments of the Joystiq preview:

Killian Samuels = u kill aliens, Sam.

Also the Joystiq article mentions a parkour/Mirror’s Edge type component to it which could be neat.

  2. I very much enjoyed Prey, basically because I’m still a sucker for first-person corridor shooters with a little flair, that aren’t the hateful modern war simulator genre that COD etc have created. I really liked the recent Singularity, for example, even though it was basically a Quake game with some extra goodies, even the recent Wolfenstein game for the same reason.

But they are empty gaming calories to some extent, and I’m happy to see that Prey 2 will be reworking the format. If they can deliver and if it remains first-person, I’ll be keen to see what happens. Give me exploration, give me satisfying run-and-gunning, some Vast And Breathtaking Vistas, and I’m happy.
