1. [via Mefight Club, ironically!]

  2. Good article, but obviously written by an “outsider.” I seem to remember that when Steam came out it was highly controversial, and the HL2 release something of a cluster. Reads like Steam just came out steaming, rather than sputtering, which I think glosses over something that really only makes the success of the platform more compelling.

Sucks for Democracy 2 guy, though.

  3. I think Steam is proof that you can’t write off a product or service as a failure right away. People hated steam initially, but Valve did their best to make it work, and now it’s a lot of people’s preferred method for getting games.

  4. Yeah, I remember when Steam came out I was less than thrilled about it. However, it could also have been the fact that I didn’t have such a great internet connection back then either. I think part of it might have to do with broadband being more easily available these days. I love Steam now though. I wouldn’t have bought Super Meat Boy without it…

  5. In defense of Valve, I’ve played some hours of Democracy 2 and you know what?

It’s not right for Steam. The graphics and interface are rudimentary and I think you might do worse the more you follow the inner workings of politics, which seems counterintuitive for such a simulationey exercise.
