Closed Beta for APB

All Points Bulletin, a cops vs. robbers MMO, is going into closed beta! No, wait. Wrong link. Let's try this again. APB: Reloaded is going into closed beta!

Not that I understand the business workings of MMOs, but this seems like a weird one even to me. Buying a failed MMO sounds like a bad idea because of the stigma alone, nevermind the actual problems leading to its failure. Then again, if you can get your hands on a semi-finished MMO for a fraction of the price of developing it yourself, why the hell not?

  1. It is very odd. I grow ever more convinced that the Big Money Gaming Industry is as populated by bloated greedy pinheaded spreadsheet-jockeys in suits to pretty much the same extent that Hollywood or any other industry is.

If indie gaming is punk rock, then to the barricades, brothers! Smash EA the state!

  2. Eh, I think it’s a pretty good idea. APB had a lot of interest going in, and I still think it’s a setting that has enough people willing to play to allow it to survive. It was poorly made in a lot of ways, and poorly balanced, is my understanding, but is scooping it up at a song and putting enough effort into it to make some money a terrible idea? I dunno. I DO think just about any MMO can be successfully retooled into a decent F2P.
