1. This was really good, and points up something that always does mystify me a little, just from my own personal preference perspective, or at least is different enough that I find it interesting. I’m totally OK with people getting their enjoyment and relaxation from gaming by whatever means works for them, but I am just not very keen on games that seem like work of any flavor. I like to be engaged, but I guess I just don’t want to work for it as much as I probably should as an enthusiast of sorts.

Hell, puzzle games annoy me. I even get mildly annoyed if first person shooters have too many nonstandard keys mapped in their control schemes. Which is to say I’m an extremely lazy player of games, I think.

A lot people love games that fit into the genre that tends to be described as ‘spreadsheet games’ — whether they’re space sims or sports team management games or whatever — and more power to them, but: not for me.

Each, as they say, though, to their own.

What Is Gamefilter?

Gamefilter is a community weblog based in spirit and intent on the great work of Matt Haughey and his staff at Metafilter. It's all about sharing links to interesting stuff on the web, but with a narrower focus on gaming-related links -- good stuff that other people might not have already seen -- and talking about them.

Anyone can join for the low low price of zero dollars, and once you're a member, you have the senses-shattering power to post new stuff right from the front end of the site, and talk about that stuff in the comment threads. You don't need an account to read GFi, but as well as giving you The Power To Post, membership also lets you

  • Thank and Favorite all the goodness

Your genial host is stavrosthewonderchicken, the miraculous poultry who built and administers the MFC Network sites, and a bunch of other web stuff as well. He has a minor addiction to building websites. He loves you all.
