The Psychology of Games

The Psychology of Video Games is a blog run by industrial psychology Ph.D. Jamie Madigan about the psychological factors of games and gaming.

Topics explored range from the reasons we are nostalgic about old games to whether motion controls are immersive.

Although updates have been sparse lately, there is an ample archive that is still very relevant. Of particular interest may be his analysis of how Valve Software is toying with our emotions, both through the recent Steam Treasure Hunt and last year’s Soldier vs. Demoman event.

Bonus: Check out Madigan’s personal blog, which includes a series of science experiments performed by his daughter Samantha, as well as personal reviews of games, including Indie hit Limbo.

  1. Oooh, interesting. I expect I will come out of reading this with many things to get contentious about. Or not. Either way, it’s a win!
