1. The kitty at the end was nice, but what I’d really like to see is a monster-sized T-Rex

  2. I love that it’s a Minecraft hack because, hey, Minecraft, but this actually mostly just left me excited in general about the idea of using Kinect as a platform for 3D object construction as a game mechanic in general. The ability to just plain use space in front of the camera as a sort of rapid-prototyping or 3D sculpture kit for generating in-game assets is brilliant.

Like, imagine a platformer game, something basic like Super Mario Bros., except before you start playing you use the kinect to pose for the various frames of character animation. And then, bam, grab a controller and play a platformer except it’s you (or your favorite G I JOE, or whatever you posed for the frame-capture tool) doing the running around and jumping and shit.

Or an add-and-subtract carving tool that you can use to literally handwave a rough object into existence, “putting” material in place or “taking” it away, rotating it, stretching it, twisting it, painting it. Make your own little in-game stuff really quickly.

  3. Video here, if you can’t be bothered to click through!

  4. Neat!

The resolution of the sensor seems to be very high. Is it possible that it might be used for sports technique instruction, i.e. improving one’s golf swing?
