Two games that make players into coders: else { Heart.break() } puts you in a world where the (upcoming) game’s code itself can be accessed and altered by the player and Code Hero gives you a code gun that shoots Javascript [NOT CODE] [WAIT OK YES CODE].

else { Heart.break() } looks really interesting. I’m more skeptical of Code Hero — I didn’t realize they had a prototype/beta download already, though it looks like you need to pre-purchase to gain access? — but I’m curious. You’re not in on that beta, are you?
Somewhat related: since it started last month I’ve been going through Codecademy‘s Code Year courses. Basically a handful of javascript lessons each week, starting from nothing, with a javascript interpreter baked into the page so it checks your work, or at least tries to. I played with BASIC as a kid, and learned the beginnings of C, but never anything object oriented, so it’s been neat so far. Hopefully I’ll know enough by the time else { Heart.break() } comes out.
